Getz/Gilberto is a jazz bossa nova album released in 1964 by the American saxophonist Stan Getz and Brazilian guitarist João Gilberto, and featuring composer and pianist Antonio Carlos Jobim. Its release created a bossa nova craze in the United States and internationally. It brought together Stan Getz, who had already performed the genre on his LP Jazz Samba, João Gilberto (one of the creators of the style), and Jobim, a celebrated Brazilian composer (and also one of the main creators of the genre), who wrote most of the songs in the album. It became one of the best-selling jazz albums of all time, and turned Astrud Gilberto, who sang on the tracks "The Girl from Ipanema" and "Corcovado", into an international sensation.

It won the 1965 Grammy Awards for Best Album of the Year, Best Jazz Instrumental Album - Individual or Group and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. "The Girl from Ipanema" also won the award for Record of the Year in 1965. This was the first time a jazz album received Album of the Year. It was the last jazz album to win the award until Herbie Hancock's River: The Joni Letters 43 years later, in 2008.

The Brian melvin trion : Standards Zone ( 1986 - Released In 1990 ) featuring Jaco Pastorius and Jon Davis

This straightahead trio date led by drummer Brian Melvin is most notable for being electric bassist Jaco Pastorius's final recording, cut just a year before his premature death. With Melvin and pianist Jon Davis (whose style is most influenced by McCoy Tyner and Herbie Hancock), Pastorius was free to be very active in accompanying the piano solos and he gets to stretch out on nearly every tune.

Secret Story is an album by Pat Metheny released in 1992. The music is all composed by Metheny (shared credit on one track) and it is one of his most ambitious and successful studio ventures, integrating elements of rock, jazz, neo-folk and "world music".  On February 10, 2008, the album won the Album of the Year and Best Contemporary Jazz Album at the 50th annual Grammy Awards, surprising the music world. It faced competition from Kanye West, Foo Fighters, Amy Winehouse, and Vince Gill. River was the first jazz album to win best album in 43 years and only the second in the award's history; the other was Getz/Gilberto by Stan Getz and João Gilberto in 1965.The track "Both Sides Now" was also nominated for Best Jazz Instrumental

Trilok Gurtu, Simon Phillips & NDR Big Band - 21 Spices [2011]

 

'21 Spices' sees two giants of the percussion world team up in a unique collaboration with Germany's NDR Big Band - tabla specialist Triok Gurtu and rock drummer Simon Phillips.
The musical roots of the two protagonists on this album could not be more different. Bombay born Trilok Gurtu left India in the seventies and in the following decade went on to perform with such greats as John McLaughlin, Joe Zawinul and Pat Metheny.

Alain Caron - Title Of Album: Sep7entrion Year Of Release: September 7, 2010.

Canadian bassist Alain Caron’s musical career began at the early age of 11 when he won an amateur contest, he soon joined some top 40 bands performing American, south-American and French standards. AT the age of 14 he discovered the music which would become his life’s passion - jazz.

Opportunity knocked in 1977 when he met the Michel Cusson Group. Caron found himself in the company of like-minded musicians - who could appreciate jazz and its origins, as well as looking ahead to the future; they emerged in the early 1980s with super fusion group UZEB. In 2007 The University of Quebec, under the aegis of the University of Quebec in Rimouski, decreed an honorary doctorate to the internationally acclaimed bassist. Important to note, he is the only musician to have ever received this honor.
